Arsenal have reportedly made a £20million bid for Wayne Rooney according to the Mirror. Simon Mulluck opens his article with the line: “Arsenal have made a £20million bid for Wayne Rooney”.
The article goes on to say that the player will also be subject to an offer from Chelsea. The news comes after the player reportedly met with Manchester United representatives over the weekend, as the player continues to stall over his future. The English forward has two years left on his current £250,000 per-week deal, and wherever he signs a deal next, he will more than likely take a pay cut. It’s an interesting one as the Daily Star claimed an exclusive on Friday – also saying Arsenal had bid £20million.
The 27 year-old forward looks in need of a new challenge, his career has stagnated at United, especially since the arrival of Robin van Persie who has stolen the limelight from the previous Golden Boot winner.
The newspaper claims that Arsenal would like to partner £22million pending signing Gonzalo Higuain and Rooney in a dream-team like partnership. It’s a partnership that would cost around £50million, but one that would be capable of helping the Gunners compete for the league once again. It is thought Arsenal would offer Rooney a deal worth £175,000 per-week with the security of a 5 year-deal to compensate the drop in wages he would have to take. Arsenal fans will hope the club confirm at least one of them sooner rather than later!
