Arsenal have been handed a chance to sign Yaya Toure this summer. The Gunners are very interested in the Ivory Coast international, and his latest comments will have alerted Arsene Wenger.
Wenger could see Toure as the perfect player to play in defensive midfield, at 32 he would not disturb Francis Coquelin’s progression. Toure appears to have lost the legs for his attacking duties, but he could perhaps once again find his world class form in his original defensive position where he played for Barcelona.
Toure has been out of form for City this season, but the season before was easily one of the best players in the Premier League. I think he’s still got the quality. The problem could be his wages.
Toure has indicated that no amount of money will keep him at Manchester City, he wants a new challenge, the player told press:
“No amount of wages will make me stay at a club if I feel that I no longer belong there or if no challenge exists for me,” he said.
Arsenal’s current situation perhaps represents a nice challenge for Toure, he continued:
“For the future, I don’t know more than you do, because I will always go where I am offered new challenges.
“When things are not going well at a club, the key players take the fall.”
Toure’s comments come in the light of Manuel Pellegrini’s recent public criticism of the player. Toure’s decision about his immediate future could well change if Pellegrini (as expected) is fired at the end of the season.
