Arteta’s current contract expires this summer and he has not featured since November, where he was a part of the side that defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League.

The 33-year-old has featured for the U21 side recently but is not back to full fitness yet, so will not feature in this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Reading.

Tomas Rosicky, another player who’s contract is up in the summer, is also tipped to sign a new deal by Wenger, despite the Czech star previously stating his desire to leave North London.

When asked whether the veteran duo would stay at the club by reporters this week, Arsene Wenger replied:

“I think yes. That’ll be sorted out at the end of May.”

Should Rosicky stay, it will see him complete a decade of service with the Gunners since his arrival in 2006.

He was a bit-part player in the first-half of the season but has featured more regular this calendar year.
