Report: Arsenal To Try And Sign Unsettled Atletico Madrid Star Before Deadline

Arsenal and Manchester City are ready to battle it out in the final days of the transfer window for the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Mario Mandzukic, according to the Daily Express.

The Croatian striker moved to Spain from German giants Bayern Munich, over the summer but the arrival – and return to form – of former Chelsea man Fernando Torres has seen the striker fall down the pecking order at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

And now reports in Spain suggest that the 28-year-old is cutting a frustrated figure in Madrid and could now be offloaded in the coming days with Manchester City and Arsenal reportedly both interested in the forward.

City, are said to be willing to spend £26m to bring Mandzukic to the Etihad despite having already signed Wilfried Bony from Swansea.

Arsenal also still remain keen on Mandzukic. The Gunners, may rekindle their interest having addressed their transfer priority by bringing in Gabriel Paulista.

It now remains to be seen whether the Gunners are prepared to match City’s valuation of the former Wolfsburg star and whether that will be enough for Atletico to sell in the coming days.

I believe that this story from the Express is solely based on rumours as City have enough firepower in their attacking force whilst Arsenal have no need to strengthen their forward line.
