An Arsenal delegation will meet with Mattia Destro’s agent Claudio Vigorelli on Monday, according to calciomercato.it.
The Gunners are thought to be interested in the 23-year-old Roma striker, who is growing frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities at his current club.
With Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo out on loan, there is a possibility that the Gunners will look to sign another striker in January. Joel Campbell has also been linked with an exit from the Emirates.
Roma want at least €15m for the 23-year-old centre-forward, but preferably closer to €20m – report Football Italia.
Destro scored for Roma on Saturday against Palermo and the press asked him whether it was his ‘farewell’ goal:
“I don’t know,” was his reply.
So it looks like the young striker is on the move. But is he going to join Arsenal? That’s unlikely I would say. However it isn’t impossible. With Podolski and Sanogo out the squad, Giroud and Welbeck are the only natural centre forwards in the Arsenal squad. I wouldn’t expect Destro to be a regular at the Emirates, so I doubt he would leave Roma unless he was guaranteed more regular playing time.
What do you think? Would you like to see Destro join the Gunners? There is certainly a possibility that Arsene Wenger could fit another forward in his squad, but with more pressing needs – is it really realistic? I’d rather he spent this month signing a defensive midfielder and centre back.
