Arsenal Awards 2014: Top 3 Arsenal Players Of The Year

As the year draws to an end, Arsenal sit in 6th position after a mediocre start to the campaign. After lifting the FA Cup last season and earning another 4th position trophy, it has been a decent 12 months for the Gunners. Lifted by the improvement of Aaron Ramsey, the arrivals of Mat Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez, whilst the core of the squad has remained in tact it has been tough to section out our ‘best player’. Here’s our top three throughout the calender year.

The Frenchman was subject to vicious abuse following his arrival from FC Lorient. His catastrophic mix-up with Arsenal’s Number 1 in the League Cup final many years ago saw his hopes of remaining at the centre of Arsenal’s defence narrow. Now, undeniably one of the best centre halves in world football, Koscielny has taken this year by storm to announce he is the closest to world class we have seen in years. Combining to form a formidable partnership at the back with German Per Mertesacker, he provides the pace and aggression needed to balance the pair. With multiple clean sheets kept this year, we can thank our French defender who often puts his neck on the line to do anything to stop an opponent. Scorer of some vitally important goals, Laurent Koscielny nicks the number three spot.
