By far the most discussed and exciting area in need of strengthening, however, is that of a new forward. As was the case in January, last summer and the January before that, all the talk has been about which new striker we will bring in to compliment or replace Olivier Giroud, in order to release the burden on the Frenchman of being the only ‘senior’ forward at the club. Alexis Sanchez of Barcelona and Chile is the name on everyone’s lips at the moment, with Luis Suarez’s expected move to the Nou Camp seemingly opening up the door for Sanchez to depart. Many reports are indicating that Emirates Stadium would be the player’s personal preferred destination, which has caused a great deal of excitement amongst Arsenal fans. Just how great a chance there is of the deal coming off, I can’t pretend to know, but it is clear that he would be an absolutely fantastic signing for the club. Able to play across the front three, he’s a versatile forward whose skill and guile would add a different dimension to our attack, and would be exactly the sort of player to bring the best out of Mesut Özil.
