Right Back:
After Bacary Sagna ended his seven-year stint at the Club by joining Manchester City a few weeks ago, we have been left looking to fill a rather large hole in the right side of our defence. Sagna had been the model of consistency since arriving in 2007 and the right-back spot only needed any consideration during his injury spells, and so replacing him will not be the easiest of tasks. Serge Aurier looked to be the club’s first choice target and made his intentions clear across social media platforms, but our interest appears to have either cooled or been fabricated by the media. In the last week it appears a move has been made for Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy, however. Debuchy has moved ahead of Sagna in competition for the starting spot in the French National Team and so is clearly of a high level, and his Premier League and Champions League (at Lille) experience should mean he would be able to comfortably slot into the side. Debuchy has done well since joining Newcastle and would be a solid signing that solves a potentially large problem without too much fuss and, at £12 million, would be a very good signing for the club.
