Arsenal have been linked to a lot of players of the last couple of months, but the latest news from Spain suggests that Sergio Busquets tops the Gunners list of transfer targets.

Spanish publication SPORT reported on Tuesday: “Arsenal want to reinforce their first team. Manager Arsene Wenger has given his directors a list of reinforcements he wants and the priority they have. And on the list you’ll find a Barcelona player – Sergio Busquets.”

The Spanish paper suggest Arsenal could afford to sign the 27 year old, who is widely regarded as one of, if not the best defensive midfielder in the world. He is valued at around £40million.

A deal for Busquets though seems extremely unlikely, with the player recently signing a new contract to keep him at the club until 2019. Gunners fans may clutch at straws with Busquets recent comments on ‘understanding’ why Pedro may want to leave. With Barcelona unable to sign players until January and several fringe players on the verge of leaving, it seems extremely unlikely that Busquets will be anywhere but Barcelona next season.

Arsenal have also been heavily linked with a move for Karim Benzema, with the latest rumours suggesting that Benzema has hinted at a transfer.

Arsenal are also in negotiations with Palermo over a loan deal for Joel Campbell. The Costa Rican has failed to fit in at Arsenal and although Wenger is willing to sell him permanently, it looks likely that it will be another temporary move away for the versatile forward.
