3 Things We Learnt: Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal

3. Arsenal can play aggressively too

It would appear that last night Arsenal took a leaf out of United’s book and, when necessary, adopted their aggressive style of play. This didn’t mean the Arsenal team were awash with yellow cards, in fact it was quite the opposite (two yellows to United’s seven), nor was it a particularly scrappy game.

You could see the fighting spirit in the Arsenal team right from the time the referee blew the whistle indicating the start of the match. For once Arsenal not only met but took United head on. During the 2013/14 when Arsenal were the only top four team unable to beat other top-flight teams (and more than once we were given a good hiding).

But although the 2014/15 season is winding down and in a matter of just over two months will come to an end, to have beaten both Manchester clubs this season will surely have boosted the confidence of Arsenal, both at player and fan levels.

Arsene Wenger had this to say after the game:

Mentally we were prepared and started on the front foot without any apprehension. We put them under pressure from the start and overall, we deserved to win the game.

I couldn’t agree more!
