3 Reasons Arsenal Must Sign A Young Centre Back

3. Learning Potential

For a young defender it is a tricky business, especially at the highest stage of all. One small mistake could spell the end for a players chances as they would not be able to forget it and it’s likely that they’d have little positives to rectify their mistake. It’s a very, very thin-line for any young player to walk but for a defender the pressure is even higher.

The young defender that is brought in would benefit hugely from partnering one of the experienced defenders on the field, learning from them in a match environment- which would help them fulfil, or excel, their potential. It’s a win/win situation.

On top of this, the player would also benefit massively from training with three experienced international defenders on a daily basis. The training environment is arguably the most important to a young player as this is where their manager can test out their abilities in a variety of scenarios without the pressure of a competitive match.

A young defender could be crafted into the next Per Mertesaker, which could provide service to our club for a generation. That, on it’s own, is a reason to dip into the transfer market for a youngster in central-defence.
