Mathieu Debuchy has revealed that he had the chance to join Manchester United this summer, but was denied by Arsenal. The Frenchman, who is now on loan at Bordeaux, says he is disappointed that a move to United was blocked.
Having lost his place to Hector Bellerin, Debuchy has been fighting a losing battle since the start of the season and has been publicly frustrated at his lack of game time.
“I was disappointed, obviously, if I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent. Debuchy said.
“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival. Yes, I’m a little bit annoyed with him. It’s his choice. “I came back well this summer, I had a good pre-season. I talked to him to know my future at Arsenal. He said that I would have game time and that we would discuss it in December. Unfortunately, I didn’t have this game time.
To be honest, if we have players this upset that they haven’t joined Manchester United, then I don’t really want them at the club. Since being displaced, Debuchy has done a lot of talking off the pitch, but not really performed on the field to justify any more game time than he was receiving.
