Monreal Is Fast Becoming Our Most Consistent Defender: Stats vs. Tottenham

A WhoScored rating of 8.53, Nacho Monreal was statistically our best player on the field. In fact Harry Kane’s two goals wasn’t even enough to give a higher rating (8.32). Guess that’s something to say when you’re getting bantered off at School or work. Not that it’ll mean much.

Monreal won 10 out of 11 aerial duels (91%), with 8 of the 10 won coming against Erik Lamela, who was kept relatively quiet by his marksman. Monreal made an astonishing 11 clearances, with just over a half (6/11) of clearances coming from headers. 40% tackle success from 5 tackles. He made 7 interceptions and blocked a pass (63′).

It took 90 mins for Monreal to make his first take on, coming against Denmark’s Christian Eriksen as Arsenal were self-forced to come at Spurs, usually because it’s a case of “nothing to lose”, but I think we all know that bragging rights is on the table.

Nacho enjoyed a pass accuracy of 73.7%, providing a single key pass and swinging in crosses (2). He sprayed 7 long balls with 3 finding a team-mate. He was booked for a foul on Kyle Walker, a ridiculously harsh decision considering Mason’s antics.

The Spanish collected 66 touches of the ball having featured in the whole game. His large rise in form gives Gibbs something else to worry about besides his injury issues. I’m not his biggest fan, but even so, keep proving me wrong Nacho.
