For many, it seemed like a routine result that saw Arsenal into the quarter final of the FA Cup for a fourth season in a row.
However, the 2-0 victory over Sutton United was also a chance to pick apart some of the Gunners squad who haven’t been pulling their weight in recent weeks.
As well as Jeff Reine-Adelaide being on the back end of some harsh criticism, it seems like the career of Nacho Monreal took a massive downward trend on Monday night.
The Arsenal left-back failed to take charge of the left hand side of midfield, and when given the chances wasn’t crucial enough to put Sutton in any real danger.
Arsene Wenger has recently dropped the defender in favour of Kieran Gibbs, who he stated has been performing “very well” in training recently, suggesting Monreal might have had his moment in the spotlight.
Here’s some of the ways Twitter reacted to Monreal’s performance:
Nacho Monreal just doesn’t fill me with confidence anymore.

Monreal has a remarkable talent for playing at the exact same level as whoever the opposition is.

Please bin Monreal next season. Bertrand, Grimaldo, Mendy, Wendell, Kolasinac, maybe Emerson. Any of them would do @arsenal

Monreal and Iwobi must be up there with the worst left side is Arsenal’s history.
Absolute poverty!!— #Arsenal#Boxing#Beer (@shaunsully85) February 20, 2017
In my opinion, I think Monreal has to play with a bit more fight during the 90 minutes and I feel that’s down to having next to nothing as competition.
Gibbs is a great player but would we really miss him? No. Monreal has got too comfortable and now he’s into his 30’s, this is one position that needs covering in the summer!
