Workforce Welbeck: England Forwards Stats vs Lithuania

In recent years, the international break hasn’t exactly been something Arsenal fans look forward to.

Multiple injury scares or racking up too many injuries are just a couple of the concerns resting on the minds of Gunners supporters.

However, with a new manager in Roy Hodgson has come a new philosophy for our English stars, and a squad rotation policy has helped relax the head of Arsene Wenger.

Tonight we take a look at how Danny Welbeck faired in the 4-0 win at Wembley, against a sub-standard Lithuania side who managed only one shot throughout the game.

WhoScored Rating: 9.6

Simply by looking at the above rating for Danny Welbeck should tell you it wasn’t too much of a bad night for the 23-year-old.

The Arsenal star played the majority of the game sat just behind former club teammate, Wayne Rooney, after Raheem Sterling covered his original left-wing position late on into the first half.

Things were always going to be easy for England, and Welbeck picked up an early assist when skipping past the back four to unleash a strike which rebounded onto the head of Rooney.

As expected, Welbeck gave his all in terms of work rate, and was rewarded just seconds before half time, as he latched on to get the faintest of touches to make it 2-0.

That striker now makes him the leading goalscorer in Euro 2016 qualifying, with six goals in five games. With five shots through the 77 minutes that he played, he also stood as the player with the most successful shot percentage, as he made four of his five shots on target.

Welbeck also managed a pass success rate of 80%, which was followed up by his ability dribble passed players twice, and making 100% success rate of the seven dribbles he took on.

Hodgson will be keen to rest the England star on Tuesday night, after he limped off with a slight problem in his knee. Early reports suggest he should be fine for Arsenals next game against Liverpool.
