Despite Arsene Wenger confirming that there would be no significant incomings to the Gunners squad this month, something has got everyone talking.
The subject in hand is Carl Jenkinson’s future, and whilst it seems apparent the 24-year-old will complete a permanent move away in the next few days, Wenger has annoyed several supporters.
Jenko has been snapped up by Crystal Palace for a minimal £3million, however it looks as if Wenger has no plans to cover the position between now and the summer.
With Jenkinson gone, it doesn’t look as if Mathieu Debuchy is far away from packing his bags either, and that’s concerning for more reasons than one.
But in an attempt to reassure the supporters that not all was lost, Wenger confirmed he wouldn’t dip into the market to find a new player at right-back.
There’s a possibility he (Jenkinson) will move in the next two or three days. I can’t tell you much more because we haven’t come to a conclusion yet.
We still have Mathieu Debuchy who is injured and Gabriel who plays there as well. We have Bellerin, so we are not short in this position which is why we’ve allowed one of the players to go out because they have less opportunity to play.
All of this is being reported whilst Hector Bellerin is still injured, meaning Gabriel is our only realistic option at right-back for the Swansea game tomorrow.
Now being an Arsenal fan, we all know injuries can ruin our season and unless Wenger dips back into the market for an established right-back our season could turn around in seconds.
Sure, Rob Holding is a good option in the full-back area but having not played a single minute there this season, it’s a big gamble for Wenger to take.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is an option for our FA Cup games, but one injury to Gabriel or Bellerin means we’re playing with a huge risk.
Debuchy is expected to complete a return to France later this month, whilst Jenkinson is entering the final stages of his switch to Palace.
