With Bacary Sagna having already departed and Thomas Vermaelen soon likely to follow, Arsenal are in need of one if not two new centre-backs. It’ll be interesting to see how Wenger approaches this, personally if Vermaelen does leave I’d like to see an experienced head come in, along with a more youthful centre-back in preparation for the future, particularly as koscielny and Mertesacker are reaching the latter stages of their respective careers.
Here I look at 3 potential centre-back targets:
1. Steven Caulker
Although previously of Spurs Steven Caulker would be a welcome and excellent addition to the Arsenal side. The 22 year-old Cardiff man would provide fantastic cover for Koscielny and Mertesacker and definitely has his best years ahead of him. Caulker is a very disciplined defender and leads by example, last season he only received 1 league yellow card which is an admirable feet for such a young and relatively inexperienced player.
As well as been a solid defender Caulker is also a threat at the other end and chipped in with 5 goals last term.Having only recently joined Cardiff this signing could be a pricey one, but for a defender that has great potential and is already performing so well it could be a worthwhile one. Use the page numbers below to navigate through the rest of the article.Â
