Two transfer experts provide update on Sesko to Arsenal talks

Arsenal’s interest in Benjamin Šeško is serious, and the club have now begun formal talks with RB Leipzig to explore a deal for the highly rated Slovenian striker.

According to trusted journalist Sami Mokbel, Šeško has near-universal support internally at the Emirates. However, he would represent the more expensive option when compared to alternative target Viktor Gyökeres.

Gyökeres, currently playing for Sporting CP, is viewed as a more economical choice. Still, securing the Swedish striker would represent a shift from Arsenal’s longer-term recruitment strategy—one which has consistently identified Šeško as a top target.

It seems Gyökeres has appeared more as an option since Andrea Berta arrived at the club, but that Sesko to Arsenal appears the most likely move at this stage.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed today that talks between Arsenal and Leipzig began around a week ago. This aligns with the club’s desire to act early and decisively in the summer window as they look to add firepower to Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

On his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Benjamin Sesko will leave Leipzig this summer, that’s the expectation. Last week, Arsenal had the first concrete talks for Sesko. Arsenal spoke to Leipzig & had conversations with the agent of the player.”

“Arsenal started to understand the whole situation around Sesko — contract terms, player value; I’m told it could be less than the reported €100m.”

“Now, there is still nothing agreed, as of today, between Arsenal & Sesko, but there is contact ongoing between all parties involved. I think making contact for Sesko is showing how concrete Arsenal’s interest is.”

Leipzig missed out on Champions League football for next season and so are likely to be willing to sell to raise funds.

Šeško, who has just turned 22, has already scored over 100 senior goals in club and international football. While he may represent a slightly bigger risk due to his age and top-level inexperience compared to other options, his potential upside is significant. With elite physical traits, excellent movement, and proven finishing ability, he fits the mould of a modern, high-ceiling number nine—precisely the profile Arsenal have been targeting.

While both deals have been explored, all signs currently point towards Šeško being the preferred option—if the financial side of the deal can be agreed. The Gunners appear determined to make a statement this summer, and Šeško could well be that statement forward signing.

Gyokeres has better link up abilities, but Sesko looks the more physically imposing and better in the air, making him perhaps a better option against low blocks.
