It’s not often that you can check Twitter on the night of an Arsenal game to see fans agreeing on the same thing, but when it comes to Nacho Monreal, our minds are settled.
The 31-year-old has transformed into a centre back over the last few months and having played there for the majority of 2017 has managed to make the position his own.
Monday night’s 2-0 win over West Brom saw Monreal start for the seventh time this season, making him the most used player to feature on Arsene Wenger’s team-sheet so far.
And whilst Alex Lacazette will have his name on the back pages, it was Monreal’s off the line clearance that kept Arsenal in a game that was dominated by poor refereeing decisions.
As well as his heroics to keep us 1-0 up, Monreal has proved to us that Wenger was right not to go back into the market to find a ready-made centre-back replacement for Gabriel.
But don’t just take my word for it, here’s what Twitter had to say:
Man of the match has to be Nacho Monreal. Has been incredible.

There is absolutely no way soldiers or doctors deserve more money than Nacho Monreal.

Job done. Nothing fancy, good result. Pleased for Lacazette with his double, Ramsey played superb & Monreal; best player on the pitch.

Watched Arsenal’s win. Monreal outstanding, Ramsey’s work rate exceptional, WBA tough nut to crack. 2 very clear penalties, only 1 given.

Monreal honestly one of the best professionals at Arsenal. Attitude and general example he sets is superb. 2-0 up and still 100% commitment.

Once again tonight, Nacho Monreal was superb. Consistently solid without receiving praise from the media. Severely underrated

Nacho Monreal made 6 interceptions last night.
For context, the other 13 Arsenal players made 6 interceptions combined.
