Arsenal are keeping tabs on the situation of highly rated Barcelona B captain, Alex Grimaldo, who could be available to sign on a pre-contract from January 1.
Grimaldo, 20 is thought of as one of the best young defenders in Europe, but now no longer a teenager, he is becoming frustrated at just playing in the B team, which now plays in the third tier of Spanish football. The left back has indicated he will not sign a contract extension at the La Liga holders if they do not promote him to the first team.
If he does not sign an extension before the new year, he would be available to sign on a pre-contract for free, with his current deal expiring in the summer.
On the face of it the Gunners are well-equipped at left back, but the availability of Grimaldo would alert Arsene Wenger. Nacho Monreal is in fine form, but turns 30 this season. Kieran Gibbs has failed to reach the levels everyone at the club had hoped for, and may be looking to leave at the end of the season if he remains second choice.

The success of Hector Bellerin in our system only strengthens the theory that an attacking Barcelona-educated full back would be a success in England.
