12 days to go. 12 days until the most frantic of activities take place as fanatics refresh their Twitter feed in hope and excitement.
Tweets flood in, the headlines appear, it’s happening. The January transfer window is always an emphatic period within the season, a lapse of time when the football isn’t as important. Focus switches to the managers, agents and moving players. It’s been firmly established for 2 seasons now that Arsenal are lacking real bite and grit in their midfield. A solution that may have seen a Premier League medal wrapped firmly around the necks of the Red and White. Transfer dealings are seemingly difficult at this stage however. Contracts, rising clubs and mid-season… the problems arise, as do Arsenal’s transfer targets. Who could they secure to answer their ongoing question?
1) Sami Khedira
The German World Cup Winner stringed together a handful of impressive displays as his country went on to lift the largest competition in international football. His passion, force and power were exerted in a role that played alongside box-to-box Schweinsteiger, but since then he has fallen out of favour with Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti. Available on the cheap, or in fact a pre-contract (to sign in July for free), his attributes could be necessary to the Arsenal midfield trio. Buddies with Podolski, Ozil and Mertesacker, he could partner a growing German core within this side, and his attributes certainly match our expectations: composure, passing and experience – he slots in just perfectly.
