What’s Up, Alexis? 3 Things We Learnt From Arsenal vs. Hull City

3 – Agitated Alexis

If there was a game to show the fans you can put a boost into your clubs season, then there really isn’t a better chance that Tuesday night for Alexis.

The winger came on for Danny Welbeck in a final 20 minute push to grab a winner, but it was more of the same frustration the Chilean has experienced since his return from injury.

Just one of his three shots were on target, which included a wayward strike that we’re used to seeing him put in the back of the net.

When looking at his play across the pitch there was no sign of Alexis creating a real threat, after receiving a pass completion rate of just 40%, one of the lowest across the team.

The thing about Alexis is his work rate is so important to our performance that we often look past the failings he makes in front of goal, but in recent appearances it’s becoming a regular occurance.

He is yet to have a game in which he’s shone in 2016, and with Barcelona up next a lot of us would never have considered leaving him on the bench, until now.

It is just a matter of time until he finds his form again, and I’m sure in a few weeks time this post will be meaningless, but with Welbeck hitting form he has to wake up and smell the competition.

Tuesday night provides a big chance to turn things around and against his former side there will be extra firepower to impress and repay the decision of Wenger to include him.

Dropping him is a massive gamble, but we’re facing a time where Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain are also failing to shine on the wings so Wenger really has no choice to use the Chilean.
