Arsenal’s current squad boasts an embarrassment of riches that have not been afforded to Wenger in recent memory. Not since the title winning squad of 2003/2004 has their seemed such a wealth of options for the Frenchman when picking his first team squad. The ability to spend on world-class talents such as Petr Cech, Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanzhez, the preservation of the team’s best players despite interests from other teams (Koscielny, Wilshere, Walcott have all been linked with moves away this summer) and the emergence of Francis Coquelin as the lynchpin of Arsenal’s midfield means that the Gunners currently boast one of the world’s most complete squads. Giroud, Debuchy, Arteta, Gibbs, Gabriel were all on the bench on Sunday, all of whom can be trusted in the first-team. This is to add to the list of absentees that includes Sanchez, Wilshere, Welbeck, Chambers, Rosicky, Flamini and rising stars such as Gnabry and Gedion Zelalem. Never before has there been such depth in each position. Especially during last season when Nacho Monreal was forced to play at centre-half and Danny Welbeck was the only fit centre-forward. While the signing of Karim Benzema would certainly further beef up the squad, as the Frenchman would walk into any team in the world bar Barcelona, Arsenal fans can be extremely confident with their current squad posing a serious challenge to Chelsea and Manchester City this season.
