1. Yaya Sanogo:
He’s not an elegant footballer. He stumbles a lot. He falls over the ball more than he should. Participates in air shots. But this boy is effective. He’s made a positive impact, or contribution, in the majority of the games he’s played. This is even more impressive given the deep waters he was thrown into with first appearances, consecutively, against Bayern Munich, and Liverpool. He set up the opener in the Liverpool game, and should have scored on his debut against Bayern Munich. These were signs that we have a different player on our hands, someone a bit quirky, but with talent, although, it’s still way off from truly surfacing. Wenger relishes putting faith in his youngsters. But fielding Sanogo against Bayern? He must see something, and Sanogo must have it. A run of games could do wonders. I’m never concerned when Sanogo leads the line, even if other teams laugh at this stumbling prospect. He’s strong, and very mobile. He holds the ball up well for his inexperience, and has useful pace with those lanky legs; he also wins most aerial duals I’ve seen him attempt. He’s a fantastic outlet for this Arsenal team, evidence of the second goal in the Community Shield, which represent everything Sanogo is good at, for now. He made an intelligent run, held up the ball, used his strength, and set up Ramsey for a great team goal. He needs to improve his decision-making, and finishing, and this all comes with confidence, which comes with game time. Give Sanogo a ten game streak and see what he’s capable of. I think we’d see a notable improvement. Also, with no striker coming in, and Sanchez occupying the right (for the meantime) and Giroud not quite fully fit, we could see more of Sanogo this season, also considering we are now aware of the big drop in contribution from Giroud when he hits that tired spell.
