3 – Who’s Wearing The Gloves?
If you had shown Wenger the West Ham line-up before this tie then I have no doubt in my mind that Petr Cech would have started the game, for multiple reasons.
The towering presence of Andy Carroll was ultimately what killed off our chances of taking all of the points, and it will leave Arsenal fans scratching their heads as to why Ospina started.
I can understand that he didn’t want to disrupt a side that were on a decent run in the Premier League having scored eight and conceded two whilst taking seven points from a possible nine.
However, when your first choice goalkeeper is fit and ready to come back into the side Wenger needs to forget about any personal conflict and make the hard decisions.
David Ospina knows he is the second in command and isn’t going to hold a hissy fit over sitting on the bench, that’s what Cech was brought in for.
But ultimately I think Wenger wants to keep the faith in Ospina to try and tempt the Colombian to stick around for another season despite his chances of playing being minimal.
I believe Cech’s height and experience would have won us that game, it’s a bold statement but when you have a player like that on the bench you have to ask questions.
