According to several reports in British media today, Mauro Icardi’s agent will be in London to negotiate a transfer for the striker to move to Arsenal.
Yes, it’s finally some news that doesn’t include the words “possible” or “Higuain” and Gunners fans should start to get excited about the reality of this move.
Arsene Wenger is comfortable with offering the 23-year-old a wage in the region of £100,000 a week as well as promises to feature alongside some of the world’s best players.
That’s something that Icardi hasn’t been able to do in recent seasons, with Inter Milan failing to get back into European football, thus missing out on attracting big name players.
Although his agent and wife, Nara Icardi, has stated they are both happy in Italy it’s believed his playing situation is something that needs a serious lift from Inter boss Roberto Mancini.
It’s still unknown whether Nara is playing a game here, with Inter very reluctant to lose their top goalscorer she could simply be holding out for an improved contract.
However, whilst confirming Arsenal’s interest the other day Nara will reportedly meet officials in London today to get a better understanding of what the club can offer her husband.
We reported earlier this week that Icardi was one of the realistic names that Wenger may go for this summer, and with goals and potential to his name it could be a great deal.
Financially it’s better than Higuain and it’s great to see Wenger going after a different type of striker to Giroud, someone who could possibly play in a two-up-top style formation.
This summer’s Euro’s were a fantastic way to see Giroud work with Antoinne Griezmann, a smaller striker who was capable of running on to Giroud’s knock-on’s time after time.
Wenger’s approach for Jamie Vardy is very similar to that of Icardi, a man who likes to get in and around the area and snatch easy, yet important goals week after week.
