Reports have been breaking throughout the day stating that Arsenal are reaching the final stages of their talks with the 28-year-old, which have lasted what feels like a lifetime.

It’s been one of the hottest topics off the pitch so far this campaign, and with the future of Arsene Wenger uncertain many felt Ozil would pack his bags for one final career move.

However, The Independent are one of many reporting that the midfield maestro is ready to put pen to paper on a contract extension that will see him stay at the club until 2020.

It’s believed that deal will involve somewhere in the region of ÂŁ200,000 a week making him the highest paid player to wear an Arsenal shirt in the history of the club.

That’s a significant rise from his current ÂŁ140,000 a week deal, but it’s believed Arsenal’s summer transfer business is what has confirmed his decision to commit to the Gunners.

New signings in Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi have already made this squad take on a different mentality, and the club genuinely look like strong contenders for the Premier League.

That ambition coupled with the chances of Alexis also cementing his future has been a massive part of Ozil’s decision, and the news could be broken before Christmas.

Arsenal remain confident that Alexis will join Ozil in signing a contract extension, but that deal is a long way off considering his current contract expires at the end of the 2017/18 season.

Ozil’s current deal runs out at the end of next season too, but this extension will give him at least four more years with the Gunners… fantastic news for any Premier League fan!
