Should Arsenal activate Cesc Fabregas’ £25million buy-back clause this summer?

Should Arsenal use Cesc’s buy-back clause this summer? Yes. Fabregas appeared unhappy last year, the same time rumours started to creep up about circling clubs, namely United, which we all know was non-existent and nothing more than hallucinations. But the Arsenal interest was there. And it always will be. Last year, Wenger was quizzed about the Fabregas situation, he said, ‘Fabregas will stay at Barcelona at least another year,’ followed up with his signature cheeky grin. I reckon if Wenger can bring back Cesc this year, he will. And aside from pure emotional attachment, what side wouldn’t want Cesc Fabregas? Fine by me if Barcelona wants rid, we’ll happily take him back, and he’d slot right back in, and become one of the league’s best players…again.

I’ve watched Cesc at Barcelona, and every time he looks short of the player we had at Arsenal. He is booed. They’re even polls fighting to get him sold. That’s no way to treat one of the very best. This man is a genius with the ball at his feet. Maybe he’s been played out of position at Barcelona? Or maybe he feels overshadowed by the likes of Iniesta or Messi? He won’t get that at Arsenal. He’ll be worshipped. He’ll be back under the guidance of the man who started it all, Arsene Wenger. He doesn’t look happy at Barcelona, and he’s desperate to succeed there. But if Barcelona can’t see that, then he should come back home.

Many people moan that this isn’t the sort of player Arsenal need. What? You don’t want one of the best creative midfielders in football? What’s up with that? This is Cesc Fabregas. Yes, we need a powerhouse midfielder, but when we were top of the league, and the players were all on song, who was our defensive midfielder? Mikel Arteta. He’s done a good job since his move form Everton, and now we need a replacement, younger, better, someone who plays the Arsenal way. Fabregas. Arteta protected the team by being smart with the ball. Cesc can do the same. But better. Put Theo up top, Fabregas launches a ball from the halfway line, as he’s done time and time again, and watch the goals roll home. Imagine: Cesc, Ramsey, and Ozil. Name a better midfield.

Having someone of Fabregas’ quality would also greatly improve the rotation in our squad. The sole reason for a lot of Arsenal’s injuries is through overplaying and exhaustion. This is down to Wenger not having replacements of the quality needed to replace the starting 11, more often than not, he doesn’t trust the fringe players to come in and perform. Cesc solves that. You play him for a few games. Give him a rest. Bring Wilshere in. Take Wilshere out. Bring Cesc in. Bring Rosicky in. Bring Cazorla in. Bring Arteta in the odd game. Sure, players won’t play as much, but is that such a concern when you have Cesc Fabregas playing? Ramsey and Wilshere, both two of our top performers last year, both got injured through burn out. Someone of Cesc’s ilk would have prevented that. And in some games, Arteta was dead on his feet. Not being able to confidently rotate has, and will always be, until things change, Arsenal’s Achilles heel.

From where I stand, I don’t think there should be discussions regarding re-signing Cesc. He loves Arsenal. Arsenal love him. He is an Arsenal player. He is Wenger player. He’s not feeling the love from his hometown. And all this talk of United and City in the running is just plain annoying. Really? People think Fabregas would choose United over Arsenal? Arsene wouldn’t let that happen. Cesc is probably laughing at the thought. If Fabregas goes: he goes to Arsenal. And even if he doesn’t feel like it right now, Arsene should push for a move, tease the situation, and see what happens. With a little push you never know… Is there anyone else of his quality for £25 million? Nope. It’s a no brainer. Cesc Fabregas belongs at Arsenal.
