A familiar name to Arsenal fans, Julian Draxler was linked to Arsenal for most of the 2014 January transfer window.
The 20-year-old Schalke star is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe. He plays with both confidence and quality, possessing a refreshing level of maturity for someone so young.
Although the German international considers himself an attacking midfielder by trade, he has been deployed in wide positions frequently, and there’s also been talk of Arsene Wenger looking to turn him into a centre-forward. His potential is unquestionable, but he is far from the finished article. On his day he can dominate teams with powerful runs, direct dribbling, and devastating long shots, but it is rare for a 20-year-old to do so on a weekly basis. He has been fairly consistent in the Bundesliga, although it’s up for debate whether or not he would enjoy the same success in the Premier League.
It is unlikely Schalke would accept bids less than £35 million, so if Arsenal were to make a move for Draxler, it would eat up a large portion of their transfer funds. Is he worth the risk? We’ll have to wait and see.
