Revealed: Isak and Gyokeres statistically the two best striker options for Arsenal

As Arsenal look to add firepower to Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer, two names are rising above the rest: Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres. Using a custom scoring system that evaluates technical attributes, goalscoring data, physical output, and transfer value, these two strikers topped our deep-dive striker grading model.

You can check out the full breakdown of the top seven targets and the methodology behind the rankings in our latest newsletter: Finding the perfect striker for Arsenal.

Isak Leads the Rankings Despite High Price Tag

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak came out on top with a total score of 20.8, even after being given just a 2/5 rating for value due to a projected fee in excess of £120million. At 25, the Swedish international is entering his peak years and continues to look like a world-class forward in the making.

Isak’s combination of pace, technical flair, and elite finishing ability make him a tantalising option for Arsenal. He shone once again in the Carabao Cup final, scoring a stunning goal against Liverpool – just another reminder of his ability to deliver in big moments.

The only downsides? His aerial ability and pressing metrics could be better, and there’s still some concern about a patchy injury history. But with Arsenal seeking a game-changer in the final third, Isak could be the ideal fit.

Gyokeres Emerges as a More Affordable Alternative

Closely behind Isak is Viktor Gyokeres, who continues to light up the Portuguese league with Sporting CP after a standout season in 2022/23. With 15 goals in 26 caps for Sweden, and even a hat trick against Manchester City under his belt, the former Coventry striker has proven he can deliver on big occasions.

Gyokeres’ blend of physicality and intelligent link-up play could make him a great stylistic fit for Arteta’s system. His creative output is also impressive – 16 assists across two league seasons and four in six for his national team this term.

While he hasn’t played in the Premier League yet, his time in the Championship should ease any adaptation concerns. With reports suggesting a summer price tag closer to £60million, Gyokeres may offer better value than many of Arsenal’s striker targets.

More Arsenal Signings to Come?

As the Gunners prepare for another title charge, the need for a clinical No.9 is clear. Whether it’s the top-tier certainty of Isak or the all-action value of Gyokeres, Arsenal appear focused on making a decisive attacking addition.
