Arsenal are eying an audacious move for Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze, according to reports cited in The Metro & in The Telegraph.
The Gunners were interested in Gotze during his time at Borussia Dortmund but were unsuccessful in their move, as he opted to remain in Germany and move to Bavaria.
However things haven’t been quite as successful for Gotze at Bayern, as he has played a bit-part role in Pep Guardiola’s squad despite scoring the winning goal in Germany’s World Cup success last summer.
Reports have since suggested a move could be on the cards at the end of the season, with Chelsea and Manchester United said to be fighting for the player, whilst the latter could offer Angel Di Maria in a part-exchange deal.
Arsenal’s interest appears to be genuine though, despite heavily ambitious, although a move for another attacking minded player would be a huge surprise given the strength the Gunners already have going forward.
Having said that, Arsene Wenger has eyed left-sided players throughout the past few seasons with Julian Draxler and Marco Reus touted, so a move could make sense in that capacity. Gotze is unlikely to be a priority though, if truly targeted.
