It hasn’t been a good week for Arsenal and it looks like Arsene Wenger is prepared to make some big calls in order to give the Gunners some freshness, mentally as well as physically.Â
One change he will reportedly make is to axe Petr Cech from the team and put David Ospina between the sticks. The Colombian was set to come in for the Gunners trip to the Allianz Arena anyway, but Wenger will reportedly select him for the league game against Hull City on Saturday. Doing so would be good preparation for him ahead of a huge game in midweek.
Cech has endured a poor season and has not got enough criticism, in my opinion, for his mistakes. Had he been a new signing from overseas I think he would’ve been criticised a lot more than he has. Most the saves he has made have been basic, his reactions are slowing, he’s incredibly poor at his near post, can’t save a penalty and his distribution is terrible.
Even after saying all that, I don’t think Ospina is perfect – far from it. He struggles to claim the ball due to his height, or lack of it I should say. In my opinion, Arsenal certainly need a new goalkeeper in the summer. Cech can stay for the final year of his contract as a backup keeper as I believe he is a decent leader for the dressing room.
What do you think? Should Arsenal go with Cech, Ospina, or even Martinez for the rest of the season?
