Arsenal are looking to make some more sales in the coming weeks to allow for further investment this summer.
And a sale opportunity appears to have arisen. Nuno Tavares, our Portuguese left-back, has caught the attention of PSG as a potential replacement for Juan Bernat in their squad, according to reports emerging today.
Tavares, who arrived from Benfica for around €8million, has been on loan at Marseille this season. While he’s shown promise, he has equally shown the deficiencies we saw when he featured for Arsenal. Now left out of the US tour, it’s clear there is no spot in our squad for him, and there have been some reported issues with his relationship with Mikel Arteta.
Now, with PSG facing a challenging situation in the left-back position due to Bernat’s potential departure, they have set their sights on Nuno Tavares to act as competition for Nuno Mendes according to Relevo.
Tavares has potential and he’s still only 23. But it’s pretty clear he’s no fit at Arsenal now, with Kieran Tierney, Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko all ahead of him in the pecking order, he’d probably not play at all if he stayed at the club.
Arsenal would probably be willing to do business just south of £10million. The Gunners still have full control of his contractual situation, with 3 years to run on his contract. With that in mind, another loan deal could be possible.
We’ll have to wait and see how this situation unfolds while keeping an eye on our options to further strengthen our squad for the upcoming season, but Edu Gaspar does need to seal a few more sales to ensure further incoming business can be done.
