Report: Arsenal step up talks to beat Man City to another £100m blockbuster signing

Arsenal and Manchester City have reportedly approached representatives of Newcastle United’s midfielder Bruno Guimaraes about a possible transfer.

Transfer news specialist Ben Jacobs reported that Guimaraes is drawing significant attention and has a release clause of £100million that is applicable only for a portion of the summer.

Speaking exclusively with CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Jacobs explored the dynamic of Newcastle’s potential transfers this summer, highlighting the numerous possible changes at St James’ Park.

Arsenal, in particular, could benefit from a strong new addition to their midfield. Thomas Partey has been hampered by injuries recently and could be sold this summer.

Guimaraes, who has excelled during his tenure at Newcastle, could be an ideal fit. According to Jacobs, Arsenal and Manchester City have both initiated discussions regarding a potential move for the player.

If true, this would be the second summer running that Arsenal have gone head-to-head with City for a big midfield signing. Last year it was for Declan Rice, with Arsenal coming out on top.

With Lucas Paqueta and Eberechi Eze also said to be on both clubs shortlists, it looks like a summer of battling is again approaching for the two clubs involved in a title tussle.
