Report: Arsenal Set To Offer International Midfielder £100,000 per-week Contract

Arsenal look set to offer Jack Wilshere a new £100,000 per week contract as they look to fend off interest from Manchester City. The latest reports come from The Express but I doubt their reliability.

The new contract would show that Arsenal are really ready to compete with the big boys financially, as £100,000 per week is an awful lot for a player who is not a guaranteed starter at the club.

Manchester City are desperate to sign homegrown players, as their imminent £50million bid for Raheem Sterling shows. I think they’d probably be prepared to pay nearly the same amount on Jack Wilshere, but it seems pretty clear that Arsenal have no intention of selling and Wilshere will not force his way out of a club he loves.

Personally I don’t believe this report from The Express. Whilst I think we could very well offer Wilshere a new contract, I severely doubt it would be worth £100,000 per week. Wilshere has been injured for lengthy periods and not yet realised his potential. If he can play consistently well for a full season then maybe he would deserve that amount, but for now I would only give him £80,000 per week – at this moment he is not worth any more than that.

I’m a big fan of Wilshere’s a recently wrote about why we should resist a Manchester City offer – but what do you think? Comment below with your thoughts.
