Report: Arsenal ready to sign another Chelsea player in shock deal

Arsenal have plenty to do this summer but amongst the less exciting additions is a new backup goalkeeper.

It seemed Joan Garcia was the chosen one for many months. But his brilliant form means he is no longer happy to be a back up and is seeking a new club who will offer him the #1 spot.

As a result, Arsenal must look elsewhere and according to reports they are weighing up a move for Kepa Arrizabalaga, with the experienced Chelsea goalkeeper available for just £5million thanks to a release clause in his current deal.

According to The Athletic, the Gunners are exploring the opportunity to bring in the 30-year-old Spain international as a reliable and proven backup option.

Kepa spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, where he impressed under Andoni Iraola. He made 35 appearances in all competitions and kept nine clean sheets, playing a key role in Bournemouth’s record-breaking campaign. The Cherries finished ninth in the Premier League — matching their highest-ever finish — and recorded a club-best 56 points.

With Mikel Arteta seeking to add depth behind David Raya, Kepa’s availability represents a shrewd market opportunity. Arsenal are actively pursuing an agreement with the player and believe a significant signing-on bonus could help offset a reduction to his relatively high wages.

Signing Kepa would give Arsenal a goalkeeper with both Premier League and Champions League experience, reinforcing their squad without disrupting the budget. At just £5m, this would be among the smartest potential Arsenal signings in 2025.
