The Gunners, have already acquired the services of Krystian Bielik from Legia Warsaw, and are on the brink of signing Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista.

However, Arsene Wenger wants even more defensive cover added to his vulnerable defense.

According to reports, the Frenchman has identified Empoli defender Daniele Rugani as the man to bolster the north Londoners’ defence.

Rugani is co-owned by champions Juventus, but has enjoyed an impressive season with Empoli so far, with two goals in 19 appearances for the Serie A side.

Juve are believed to have an option to sign Rugani outright for around £2.5m, but Arsenal have been watching Rugani with interest.

Rugani, 20, has been in impressive form for Azzuri this season and his sensational performances have seen him earn a call-up to Antonio Conte’s Italy team.

Wenger’s decision to pursue another defender will certainly please Gunners fans.

An overwhelming number of Arsenal fans, believe the team’s defence is vulnerable, and have been urging Wenger to strengthen the problem area for months.

Now with Arsene Wenger looking to pursue many defenders throughout the transfer window, Arsenal fans prayers may have finally been answered.

The reliability of the Daily Star is more than questionable, but this has been reported in Italy too. We will wait and see what happens with this one.
