Arsenal are preparing to officially announce their third summer signing after reports confirmed that a medical was scheduled at London Colney for today.
According to an update from journalist, Ryan Taylor, the Gunners have are in the final stages of completing the deal for goalkeeper, Matt Turner, who will make the move to North London from MLS side, New England Revolution.
Speaking on his YouTube channel earlier on Tuesday (8.21), Taylor confirmed the news that would lead to Arsenal continuing to get transfer business wrapped up early this summer:
New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner will be having his medical on wednesday. he officially joins on july 1st and that move should be confirmed later in the week.
In one of the less secretive signings of the year, we’ve known about the 27-year-old shot stopper joining for quite a while, but Arsenal haven’t announced anything officially through any of their channels.
Having described himself as a boyhood Arsenal fan, Turner has already won over the supporters after he was spotted refusing to sign a Tottenham shirt during his final outing for New England Revolution last weekend.
And in order to advance things, Turner hasn’t taken any time from the conclusion of the MLS season by ensuring he arrives at London Colney to breeze through his medical as he prepares to become Arsenal’s third summer signing, following the recent arrivals of both Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira.
During an interview with Sky Sports following his final game in the US, Turner voiced his expectations and desires when reiterating he was not joining the club to simply sit comfortably as Aaron Ramsdale’s understudy.
Turner’s arrival is expected to kick the transfer merry-go-round into action with Bernd Leno one of the most high profile Arsenal departures waiting to happen this summer, with many clubs reportedly interested but yet to suggest any concrete interest in the 30-year-old, who has come up short when competing with Ramsdale for the number one shirt.
That means Arsenal will soon return to the standard setup of three first team goalkeepers with youngster, Arthur Okonkwo, also fighting for a place in the squad after signing a new contract just 12 months ago.
With Europa League football this season, there’s certainly going to be a bit more activity between the sticks at Arsenal, with a very real chance of seeing Turner in action, especially with him scheduled to join the Gunners pre-season tour later next month.
