Arsenal are set to make their move to sign New Zealand and West Ham United centre back Winston Reid this January according to reports.
The New Zealand international’s contract is up at the end of the season and the Hammers could be set to cash in on January, rather than risk losing him for free in the summer.
Reid has established himself as a first choice centre back for Sam Allardyce’s team and is sought after from clubs all around England.
His much needed depth and quality is required if Arsenal want to get back into the top 4 again this season.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to strengthen his leaky defensive options amid concerns over the fitness of Laurent Koscielny and the huge dip in form of World Cup winner Per Mertersacker. Reid is reportedly looking at a contract worth £60,000 a week.
Earlier during the week, West Ham Boss Sam Allardyce admitted that Reid has “no future” at Upton Park and fully expects him to depart when his contract expires during the summer.
Wenger will now look to test West Ham’s resolve with a rumoured £3 million bid in the January window and fight off competition from bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
