Arsenal’s midfield needs surgery this summer. There is lots of work to do in terms of selling and buying players and it seems as though the Gunners have started to make moves.
We’ve covered Arsenal’s interest in Sander Berge for several months. The Sheffield United midfield presents an interesting option for the Gunners as they look to strengthen their midfield this summer.
Now, the Gunners have made an offer according to Jeunes Footeux. They say the offer comes in at just under 20million euros, which equates to £17million. The expectation is that this has been rejected, with Sheffield seeking a figure closer to 30million euros (£25million).
If this is true, it’s possible a deal could be struck. The Gunners are only £8million below Sheffield’s asking price. The likes of Tottenham and Liverpool are also listed as possible clubs with interest, so the Gunners may have to get closer to Sheffield’s asking price soon if they want to secure a deal.
The 6ft 5’ midfielder combines great dribbling abilities with strong passing and physical skills, and aged just 23, already plays with maturity beyond his years. He’d offer a different option to Arsenal’s current options in the heart of midfield and is both Premier League proven and at an age where his best years are still ahead of him.
At less than £25million, for me this would be a sound investment for Arsenal. Selling the likes of Lucas Torreira, Mohammed Elneny and Matteo Guendouzi would more than fund this move.
