Arsenal are reportedly ready to launch a stunning move to capture the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The forward recently celebrated his 26th birthday and now Arsene Wenger is preparing a bid thought to be in the region of £28million.
According to a report in Germany’s national news outlet, BILD, the striker is looking for a change of scenery from Borussia Dortmund, with Real Madrid and Arsenal both heavily interested.
And with the recent confirmation that Joel Campbell will be sold this summer, and expected departure of Lukas Podolski, Wenger has the cash to tie up a lucrative package deal.
As a long-term admirer of the Gabon international, Wenger has been waiting for a world-class player to compete with current first team option, Olivier Giroud. But is he world class? Not yet. The 26 year old has only had one top season – and the price tag of £28million seems a little steep.
The Frenchman may have enjoyed a late surge of goals in the Premier League, but a dip in form towards the end of the season meant just one goal in over a month.
As a result of that, Wenger is now exploring his options in the final third, with Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck the only other viable choices to play alone up top.
However, questions have been raised as to whether the fee for Aubameyang is a justified one, £10million more could potentially get you a proven striker like Karim Benzema.
The Gabon international still has three years remaining at his German club, but with the departure of manager, Jurgen Klopp, he could be tempted to follow in the footsteps of other big names such as Robert Lewandoski.
Aubameyang has picked up 30 goals in 67 appearances at Dortmund, but in recent years hasn’t played as a solo striker, something that Arsenal are known for.
It would certainly take some effort to improve his physical conditioning, but the power force of Aubameyang would surely satisfy the expectations of Gunners’ fans.
