Report: Arsenal in talks to sell defender for £17m, could leave this month

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly pursuing a move for Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg.

Talks between Dortmund and the player’s representatives have taken place in recent days, with further discussions ongoing. The 28-year-old left-back is said to be open to the move as he seeks more regular playing opportunities.

Zinchenko has struggled to cement his place in Arsenal’s starting XI this season and appears to have fallen down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order. With Dortmund keen to bolster their squad, a loan deal with an obligation to buy—valued at around €20 million—has been discussed. Dortmund’s interest isn’t new, as the German side reportedly considered a move for Zinchenko last summer but couldn’t strike a deal at the time.

Dortmund are also not alone, with Inter Milan and Fenerbache also thought to be interested.

For Arsenal, this potential transfer could provide much-needed financial flexibility. Zinchenko is among the higher earners at the club, with a reported wage of £150,000 per week. Offloading his salary would ease Arsenal’s wage bill and allow the club to focus on securing attacking reinforcements during this transfer window.

Arteta’s side have made it clear that they are prioritising attacking additions, especially as injuries and form issues have stretched their forward options. With Zinchenko no longer a pivotal figure in the squad, Arsenal appear willing to sanction his departure if it aids their efforts to strengthen other areas.

The move could suit all parties. Dortmund would gain an experienced and versatile player capable of contributing both defensively and in build-up play, while Zinchenko would have the chance to revive his career with more consistent game time. Meanwhile, Arsenal would clear a path to make critical signings in positions of greater need.
