Arsenal are hoping to complete a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon and Portugal’s William Carvalho in the next fortnight, according to the Daily Mail.
Arsene Wenger has been a longer admirer of the Portuguese International as he seeks to sign a defensive minded player that can boost the club’s top four prospects after a dismal start to the season. Injuries and suspensions in the middle of the park have hampered the club’s progression and a big money move for Lisbon’s Carvalho may give Arsenal the right impetus going forwards.
The fee rumoured will be in the excess of £25 million. The robust midfielder was linked throughout the summer with a move to clubs all over Europe however a move failed to materialise and Carvalho has been left frustrated.
Arsene Wenger had made two bids for the Portuguese international during the summer, but after both were turned down, Carvalho has seemingly gone back into the market and Arsenal have reportedly made a more decisive move for the powerhouse.
A move for the Portuguese player would be a good move for both parties as Arsenal are in need of a new Gilberto Silva after fans witnessing poor performances all season which has seen the club not push on after their FA.Cup Final victory against Hull last season.
