Report: Arsenal have tabled biggest contract offer to sign their first choice winger target

Nico Williams is keeping the door open for a dream move to Barcelona, even as Arsenal step up their pursuit of the Athletic Club winger with a lucrative contract offer. The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe following a standout season in La Liga.

According to Sport (via Sport Witness), Williams is aware that Barcelona have made Luis Diaz (likely a cheaper option) their priority target this summer. Despite this, the Spain international remains eager to join the Catalan giants and is reportedly willing to adapt “sportingly, financially and personally” to make the move happen.

Arsenal, however, are not backing down. The Gunners are said to be “bidding hard” for Williams and have tabled a highly competitive salary package worth €9million net per season. Neither Barcelona nor Athletic Bilbao are believed to be in a position to match that figure.

Arsenal were reportedly leading the race to sign him in March, but Barcelona now look to be favourites for his signature. Barcelona would love to have the Spanish wing pairing at the club.

Despite Arsenal’s aggressive pursuit, Williams has asked for more time to explore all possible avenues for joining Barcelona before giving serious consideration to other clubs. His current stance leaves the north London club in a holding pattern as they await his final decision.

Williams appears to still be Arsenal’s first-choice winger target, but the reality is they cannot continue to wait and be second choice. Reinforcements are needed now.

With Andrea Berta now overseeing Arsenal’s summer strategy, the club are determined to add high-impact talent to Mikel Arteta’s squad. Williams fits the profile perfectly, but the player’s preference for Barcelona could be a decisive factor.
