Arsenal are hoping to reach an agreement in the coming days to sign Boca Juniors forward Jonathan Calleri according to Fichajes.
At first glance Arsenal don’t need to sign another forward, but maybe they do..
Lukas Podolski has already joined Inter Milan on loan, Yaya Sanogo is set to join Bordeaux on loan and David Moyes reportedly wants to take Joel Campbell to Real Sociedad. If all three players were to leave this month, the Gunners would be a bit short up top, even with Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry returning to fitness.
21 year old Calleri stands at just 5ft 9 and although he can play as a lone striker, it is thought he would be used as a wide player if he were to join the Gunners.
The report in Fichajes stresses that Arsenal want Calleri as part of their squad for the rest of the season. If that is really the case, you can see why Arsene Wenger was so happy to lose up to three of his current forwards this month.
Wenger has recently admitted the best strikers come from South America. After the successes of Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero in the Premier League, you can see why Wenger is keen to add another.
The Gunners are also being linked with Palermo’s Argentinian forward Paolo Dybala. He would be another good signing, but would cost significantly more than Calleri. It is thought that the Serie A side are asking for around £36million for Dybala.
