Report: Arsenal ‘agree terms’ with Premier League forward, could cost over £50m

Arsenal are reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, according to @Teamnewsandtix.

However, completing the deal may prove challenging as Wolves, currently embroiled in a relegation battle, are reluctant to let one of their key players leave during the January transfer window. Arsenal are expected to pay significantly over Cunha’s valuation, with the fee likely to be in the region of £50 million.

The Gunners had seemingly been waiting for the outcome of Cunha’s recent ban before progressing further with their pursuit. With the suspension limited to just two games, they now appear ready to push forward in an effort to secure the Brazilian’s services.

At 25, Cunha is entering his early prime and brings Premier League experience alongside versatility. Capable of playing across the front three and as a second striker, he would add significant depth to Arsenal’s attacking options. With Gabriel Jesus leading the line and Gabriel Martinelli excelling on the left, Cunha could provide flexibility and cover as the team looks to compete on multiple fronts.

This potential signing is also a reflection of Arsenal’s long-term planning. Leandro Trossard, an important contributor at present, is 30 years old, and Cunha could eventually take his position in the squad. While a summer move for Alexander Isak remains a possibility, if the Swede arrived he would more than likely take Gabriel Jesus, role. Cunha’s arrival in January would give the squad an immediate boost without scuppering long term plans.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Cunha demonstrates the ambition of Mikel Arteta’s side as they aim to maintain momentum in the Premier League and Europe. Wolves’ resistance to a sale, given their precarious league position, means Arsenal will need to put forward an offer that is difficult for their Midlands counterparts to refuse.

If Arsenal succeed in signing Cunha, it would be a major statement of intent. Adding a player who is both Premier League-proven and adaptable to multiple roles in the attack could be a key factor in sustaining their competitive edge. While challenges remain in completing the deal, the prospect of Cunha in an Arsenal shirt is an exciting one for supporters.
