Arsenal have reportedly accepted a bid for Benik Afobe, which will see him leave on a permanent basis. The bid is from an unnamed Championship club believed to be Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 21-year-old has managed 19 goals for MK Dons on loan this season, but Wolves are understood to have had a bid accepted to sign the forward on a permanent basis.
Arsene Wenger will have been impressed with how Afobe has performed on loan this season, but at 21, there was a feeling that his time to break into the Arsenal senior squad had passed. This opinion is strengthened when you see the young strikers like Chuba Akpom and Yaya Sanogo already in the Arsenal matchday squads.
MK Dons boss Karl Robinson confirmed on Saturday night that Afobe was set to join a Championship club, cutting short his loan spell with the club:
“Benik is officially speaking to another Championship club,” said Dons boss Robinson.
“We can’t say who that’s to but he’s having a medical somewhere and he is maybe moving onto other things.
“We wish him good luck.”
Arsenal will be happy to see Afobe move to a Championship team after good form on loan. It is not clear how much he will cost Wolves, but it will be significantly more than what he was valued at before his successful loan spell with Wolves.
Wenger has already loaned out Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo is also set to leave on loan as the Gunners look to trim the excess off of their attack.
