Mohamed Elneny has today completed his £5million move to Arsenal, after being granted a work permit and signing a long-term contract at the club.
The 23-year-old midfielder will be the only current Egyptian plying his trade in the Premier League. Standing at nearly 6ft tall, Elneny will bring energy to the Arsenal midfield. His presence in the squad can help relieve some of the pressure on midfield duo Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey, who are being forced to play in every high profile fixture currently.
With Mikel Arteta and Flamini’s contracts expiring at the end of the season, it was essential that the Gunners started thinking about midfield reinforcements and with long-term injuries keeping Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin out the squad, it made sense for a central midfielder to be signed in January.
Here’s some pictures of our new signing in an Arsenal shirt. Enjoy.
We don’t know too much about Elneny at the moment, but his low transfer fee make this a relatively risk-free signing. He is unlikely to be earning much either, probably somewhere around the £40,000 per-week mark, although an exact figure is yet to even be speculated.
