It’s been a slow transfer window at The Emirates stadium, but today two deals have come out of nowhere and it could be a sign of things to come with just a few days left in the transfer window.
There have already been a lot of outgoings at the club this month, particularly in defence and Arsenal have approved another deal to see a defender leave this month in the shape of Calum Chambers.
Chambers had just 6 months remaining on his contract and has been allowed to leave to join Aston Villa for a nominal fee. This was confirmed by Arsenal.com on Thursday evening.
The departure of Chambers leaves Arsenal light in defence with Ben White, Gabriel and Rob Holding the only natural central defender options and Cedric Soares as the clubs only back up for Tomiyasu at right-back.
But Arsenal do appear to have agreed a deal for an incoming in the shape of the US Mens National Team number 1, Matt Turner. That is according to The Athletic who have reported that Arsenal have agreed to sign Turner in the summer, in a deal worth £5million + add ons. This move would enable the Gunners to sell Bernd Leno, who is looking for a move in search of first team football.
Turner as a back up to Ramsdale will see the club continue to reduce a wage bill that is already significantly smaller than this time last year.
Arsenal are expected to be busy in the last few days of the January transfer window, with the continued reduction in the wage bill acting as an opportunity for new investment.
