Olivier Giroud has issued a serious warning to Arsene Wenger following heavy reports of Arsenal trying to sign a new striker.
The Frenchman is unhappy that the Gunners boss has made a club record bid for Kylian Mbappe and is concerned Alexandre Lacazette is also being lined up.
This season saw Giroud make the least amount of starts in all competitions since he joined the club back in 2012, which suggests his time could well be up.
Despite signing a new two-year contract back in December, the 30-year-old is now holding doubts over whether or not he’s done enough to prove he should be first choice.
It’s no secret that the centre forward was angered by the lack of game time he received at the start of the season, and has since been cast in the shadow of Danny Welbeck.
And as Wenger goes snooping around for more reinforcements, Giroud has told French media he will not settle for being used as a ‘super sub’ anymore:
I will put up with the transfer market. I will discuss with the coach but he is relying on me.
It’s true that I have had limited playing time but it was for a certain amount of time, it is true there were things against me. I will not settle for another year with such little playing time.
I will have to think carefully to consider it with my relatives and my advisers. It will be a decision that will be maturely thought about to have more playing time.
I still have two or even three years left on my Arsenal contract, for the moment my future is Arsenal. I feel good here, I want to win the Premier League with Arsenal. But I don’t know what the future holds.
I’ve got to say, Giroud scores important goals for us but knocking him off of our wage bill could pave the way to complete a really big investment deal.
What I mean by that is a player who can come in and give us five, six or seven years of top class football as well as add some life in the final third of our game.
Giroud can add to our goal tally I’ll admit, but he’s incredibly dull to watch and does he really fill you with confidence when placed on the starting sheet?
